ART 5. - TERMS OF OFFICE

  1. The term of office of an ordinary member of the National Executive Committee shall be three years.
  2. The term of office of the five National officer posts in the National Executive Committee shall be three years.
  3. Save as provided in paragraph 4 of this Article, each officer of the National Executive Committee may hold the same office for a second term.
  4. In any case where, by reason of a lack of nominations or otherwise, the Annual General Meeting is unable to elect any member of the Guild to fill a vacancy in a particular officer post or ordinary member position on the National Executive Committee, the following provisions shall apply:-
    1. Application of the limitations stipulated in paragraph 3 and 4 of this Article shall, insofar as it is relevant, be waived until the next following Annual General Meeting. and / or
    2. The members of the National Executive Committee remaining in office for the forthcoming year may co-opt to the vacant position any member present at the Annual General Meeting and willing to assume the responsibilities of the particular position. Any member thus co-opted may hold the particular officer position or ordinary membership position only until the occasion of the next following Annual General Meeting, when they shall be eligible for election, or
    3. Where the problem relates to an ordinary membership position as distinct from an officer post, the ordinary membership position may be left vacant.
  5. In any case where a vacancy arises during the course of the year in any position as an officer or as an ordinary member of the National Executive Committee, the remaining members of the Committee may co-opt to the position any member of the Guild willing to assume the responsibilities of the position. Any member thus co-opted may hold the position only until the occasion of the next following Annual General Meeting when they shall be eligible for election.
  6. Further to Article III, paragraphs 2 and 3 the provisions of the forgoing paragraphs 1 to 5 inclusive of this Article shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to the terms of office of all officers and ordinary members of all Branch Executive Committees.
